CAREERS FAIR
Tuesday 23 June, 9:00am-11:00am

Every year we hold a Careers Fair for all our Year 12 students. This year it is on Tuesday 23 June from 9am–11am.

We always strive to offer our students a variety of businesses, employment sectors, job roles and higher education options for them to explore. We already have a number of exciting organisations running stalls, but if you could spare just two hours to engage with our students about your job role or the organisation you work for, we would be really grateful.

Talking face-to-face to people in a relaxed and informal environment is an excellent way for them to learn and become more aspirational and enthusiastic about their futures. All young people need to hear from as wide a variety of employers/employees as possible so that they can make more informed decisions about their futures.

We do hope you will consider being a very valued part of their future decisions.

To find out more, contact Mrs Eileen Wooller, our Careers Lead, on ewooller@littleheath.org.uk. Thank you.

SPORTS DAY HOUSE COMPETITION
The Green Banner Battle

We are launching The Green Banner Battle House competition for this year's Sports Day.

Each year we waste lots of new materials making banners and flags to cheer on our Houses at Sports Day that ultimately end up in the bin at the end of the day. We want our students to show their team spirit, but by wasting less and saving money.

This year, we are challenging form groups to create House banners to cheer on the competitors, only using repurposed materials and recycling.

Each form (Years 7 - 10) will be expected to submit at least one entry for their House. Students can enter as an individual, in a team, or as a whole form group.

Be creative! Get your thinking caps on and start collecting materials over half term.

NOMINATE LHS TO WIN £1,000 IN BOOKS
With National Book Tokens and Read for Good

We have been working to improve literacy and increase students' love of reading at school this year - the National Year of Reading.

Reading for pleasure is in decline. In 2025, just 1 in 3 children and young people aged 8 to 18 said they enjoy reading in their free time – a sharp drop over the past two decades. At the same time, the work Read for Good do in schools shows that many school libraries are underfunded, outdated, and filled with books that fail to engage today's readers. Children who rely most on school libraries are often those most likely to be missing out.

National Book Tokens annual prize draw will to give five schools across the UK and Ireland the chance to win £1,000 in National Book Tokens to fill their shelves with new and inspiring books.

You can nominate Little Heath School using their online form here: Nominate Your School | National Book Tokens, and if we are one of the five winning entries, you'll also win a £100 National Book Token to spend in your favourite bookshop.

Plus: to celebrate the UK's National Year of Reading, they are giving away even more prizes! Each week until 24 June, they'll pick a flash winner – selected at random from all entries – to receive a £100 National Book Token for their school, and £25 for themselves!

Find out more and nominate LHS today here: Win £1,000 / €1,000 for your school’s library! | National Book Tokens

RAIL SAFETY
Dangers of the Railway Tracks

Network Rail have contacted schools in the area following a recent increase in trespass incidents on the railway. Most notably, a train driver recently reported children playing in the cess at Pangbourne. This is an extremely dangerous environment, as trains travel at high speeds and cannot stop quickly. This particular incident resulted in over 1,600 minutes of delay to the network and presented a serious risk of harm to those involved. Incidents like this are extremely distressing for railway staff and could easily have ended in tragedy.

We are working with Network Rail to arrange some railway safety assemblies ahead of the summer holidays. However, as we approach half-term, please ensure your child has been made aware of the dangers of the railway to keep them safe.
