Welcome to our weekly News Bulletin: Friday 17 January 2025

EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS

You may have noticed a change to our emails. School communication emails are now being sent through Arbor, therefore you may notice the email address is appearing as no-reply@mail.arbor-education.com <no-reply@mail.arbor-education.com> on behalf of Little Heath (VA) School <office@littleheath.org.uk>

Some parents have reported that they have not received our emails. Can you please check that you are receiving these emails, and they are not going to your 'junk' folder? You may wish to add the address to your 'safe sender' list.

Please note that you cannot reply to this email address and therefore emails should be sent to the main school office, or the staff member or email address noted in the communication.

If you have any concerns regarding this change in communication, please email office@littleheath.org.uk.

ABSENCE REPORTING PROCEDURE

We need to clarify the school absence reporting procedure, as we are continuing to receive a number of messages through the InTouch system inbox. This is the incorrect procedure for reporting student absence, and as this inbox is not monitored, the absence will be missed and your child will be marked with an unauthorised absence.

If your child is unwell or absent from school, please report the absence using the procedure below:

  • Contact school, preferably before 8.30am.
  • Please email attendance@littleheath.org.uk stating the child’s name, tutor group and reason for absence.
  • This should be done for any daily absence so we can update our register, maintain accurate records and crucially, safeguard our pupils.
  • Please be aware that it is not enough to state that your child is unwell. We will require more information on the specifics of the illness for our records.
  • If you are unable to email, call 01189 427337 and select the absence line.
  • Leave a clear message stating the child’s name, tutor group and reason for absence.

Due to the introduction of the new Arbor system, the InTouch system will soon be defunct and messages will no longer be received. If you have any questions relating to attendance, please contact Ms Glanville by emailing: attendance@littleheath.org.uk.

ATTENDANCE DATA ON SATCHEL ONE

We are aware of some syncing issues between Arbor and Satchel One which is affecting the attendance data visible to parents on Satchel One. Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this.

GOVERNOR VACANCIES

We are looking for people within the Little Heath community, and beyond, who are interested in supporting the school by becoming a governor. Being a governor is a rewarding role. Working alongside other governors, you will play an important part in shaping the educational outcomes for our pupils.

We currently have several vacancies on the Governing Board, and we are particularly interested in a governor with a qualification in accountancy to sit as chair on the Finance and Resource Committee, and to assist with the School’s financial governance and accountability.

Being inquisitive, having a genuine interest in education, and being committed and enthusiastic are the main attributes we look for in governors at Little Heath. We are proud that our Governing Body is made up of a diverse group of people, with a wide range of different skills, and we would love for you to be part of this team!

For more information, please see the letter by our Chair of Governors, Anton Lawrence, which has been emailed out today.

YEAR 7 WELLBEING DAY

As part of our ongoing commitment to support the wellbeing of our students, each Year 7 tutor group will come out of lessons for two hours next week to take part in a carousel of short wellbeing related activities.

The sessions will be run by members of our staff and will offer students tips and ideas to support their wellbeing; remind them about their sources of support; support students in developing and maintaining positive interactions with their peers and others, and offer an opportunity to reflect on their first two terms at Little Heath.

We hope the students enjoy the opportunity to share their views and look forward to working with them on these dates.

YEAR 11 PROM

We are excited to announce that the Year 11 Prom will be held on Monday 14 July 2025 at The Wokefield Estate. A letter has been emailed home to parents with more details and costs.

All students who wish to attend will need to follow our guidelines on conduct and behaviour or places may be withdrawn. As well as a positive engagement with learning, our expectations include:

  • Not to appear consistently in the late register, resulting in sanctions
  • A good behaviour record for the rest of the year, including a positive conduct score, with no internal or external exclusions issued by school in that time
  • No persistent poor behaviour in any subject
  • No persistent uniform issues

All of these criteria will be monitored on a regular basis. Students who do not meet these criteria will be informed and parents will be notified that their place is at risk.

We are really looking forward to this very special ‘Celebration’ event, and we hope our students will work hard and adhere to the guidelines put in place.

To confirm a place at the Prom, please complete the form below by Friday 4 April 2025. If this form is not completed, then the child in your care will not be able to attend: Year 11 Prom Application Form

Contact Mrs Harper if you have any enquiries regarding the evening of the Prom and Mrs Jessop or Mr Coulson if you have enquiries regarding the expectations for attending.
