ILLNESS AND SCHOOL
We want to remind parents that whilst we want excellent attendance in school, we do not wish students to be in when they are absolutely way too ill to attend. Parents may find this guide helpful when deciding if your child should attend or stay at home: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS as it reminds us when children can come to school, e.g. with a cold, minor headache etc, and when they should stay off e.g. vomitting.
You may also remember the guidance we all adhered to for good hygiene during Covid times, including effective handwashing. (How to wash your hands - NHS ). In order to prevent the spread of any sickness bugs, please can we ask you to remind your child of effective handwashing, the use of tissues and hand sanitiser to help keep us all healthy and avoid the spread of sickness bugs where we can.
Thanks as always for your support and sensible approach.
The Attendance Team
HOT WEATHER REMINDERS
With the current weather conditions, students should be adequately prepared for the day with plenty of drinks. All students should bring a reusable water bottle to school every day, as part of our equipment requirements. They can be refilled at the water fountains around school site.
Students are also permitted to wear smart, tailored black shorts during warm weather. No other styles of shorts are acceptable.
With the current high pollen count, please can you also ensure your child has taken appropriate preventative medication (if necessary) in the morning to ensure they do not suffer during the day. We DO NOT have hayfever medication in school.
SENSORY GARDEN PROJECT
Berkshire Youth
Berkhire Youth have launched an Intergenerational Project in Newbury. As part of this inspiring initiative, they have teamed up with Willows Edge Care Home to create a beautiful Sensory Garden which young people will plan and create.
This is a unique opportunity for young people to:
✨ Get creative
🌱 Work hands-on
💬 Build meaningful connections with older generations
🌟 Make a lasting difference
Whether they’ve been involved in activities before or this is their first time, this could be just the kind of rewarding experience they’ve been looking for.
