CONSULTATION
Potential Adjustment to Lunchtime and School Finish Time

We are consulting on a potential adjustment to the structure of the school day from September 2026, including a reduction in lunchtime from 45 minutes to 35 minutes, alongside an earlier finish time of 3:15pm for students who do not have interventions or same-day sanctions.

This proposal remains under consultation and no final decision has been made. The purpose of the document linked below is to outline the rationale for the proposal, summarise findings from the lunchtime trial, and invite structured feedback from parents, staff and other stakeholders.

You can read more here: April 2026 Consultation Letter | LHS Proposal to Reduce Lunchtime and Adjust School Day

Please feed back using the online form here, no later than Friday 1 May: LHS Change to School Day Proposal - Parent Consultation Online Feedback Form

REQUIRED STATIONERY
Equipment to Bring to School Everyday

We are finding that more students are not bringing the essential stationery needed for lessons on a daily basis, which means we are having to provide stationery such as pens and glue from school funds. Students should bring the following equipment to school every day. If they are missing equipment, they can buy it very cheaply in Resources at break or lunchtime, and before and after school – please note they will need cash to buy from Resources.

Some items, such as exam packs, stationery packs and calculators, can be purchased via ParentMail and collected from Resources.

They should have:

  • Pencil
  • Black Pens
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Maths equipment – calculator, protractor and compass
  • Reusable water bottle – we would discourage single-use plastic bottles where possible
  • Reading book - from home or can be borrowed from the library

A full list of the stationery in Resources, and the prices, can be found here: LHS Student Stationery Price List (April 2026)

More information can be found on our website here: Little Heath School - Required Equipment & Stationery

NO MOW MAY
Pause Mowing for Wildlife

If you haven't heard of No Mow May before, it's a movement to encourage people to reduce or pause lawn mowing during May to support pollinators and promote biodiversity.

Sadly, lots of the wildflowers and wild areas of nature in the UK have been lost, meaning we have fewer pollinating insects, which means fewer plants and fewer habitats and less food for wildlife.

You can visit the No Mow May website here: Plantlife's No Mow May Movement

Here is a short video you can also watch to find out more: Why you should take part in No Mow May

Next month, we will not be mowing the grass area behind Art and Drama, and an area under the trees by the minibuses*, during May. This will encourage more wildflowers like dandelions and clover, which is ideal food for pollinators. It's a small action to take in school, but it has a big impact on nature.

Perhaps you can pause mowing at home too, next month?

*We have picked these areas which are away from the building, and where students don't tend to go, to minimise the impact on hayfever symptoms.

ATTENDANCE
Importance of Punctuality and Good Attendance

Every lesson in the coming weeks plays an important role in preparing students for their exams. Teachers are focusing on final content coverage, targeted exam practice, revision techniques, and personalised feedback. Missing lessons now can have a direct impact on exam performance, as students may lose opportunities to clarify challenging topics, practice examination skills, or receive individual guidance from subject specialists.

We kindly ask for your continued support in ensuring that your child:

  • Attends school every day unless genuinely unwell
  • Arrives on time and fully prepared for lessons
  • Engages positively in all timetabled revision and taught sessions

We sent an email home earlier this week with more information and advice for the next few weeks. Together, we can help our students approach their exams feeling confident, well-prepared, and supported.
