Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship

Supporting students beyond the traditional university route.

For students who are unsure about going to university — or who want a more practical, hands‑on option — the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) offers a compelling alternative.

This programme allows students to earn a salary of £42,000 while working towards a fully funded (BSc) Hons degree in Professional Policing Practice. All qualification fees are covered by the Met, meaning students gain a recognised degree without taking on student debt, while starting a meaningful career straight after education.

A practical pathway with real‑world experience

Unlike a traditional university route, the PCDA combines on‑the‑job learning with structured classroom teaching. Over three years, students develop practical policing skills while working as frontline officers, build professional confidence, and apply their learning directly within their communities across London.

This approach suits students who:

  • Learn best through doing, not just studying
  • Want to enter the workforce straight away
  • Are motivated by purpose, responsibility, and public service
  • May thrive in a structured, supported environment

Developing skills for life and employment

Alongside gaining a degree, students on the PCDA develop valuable, transferable skills including:

  • Communication and decision‑making
  • Problem‑solving and resilience
  • Teamwork and leadership
  • Accountability, empathy, and professional judgement

These skills support long‑term career progression within policing and remain highly relevant across a wide range of careers.  A strong option for students seeking direction

The PCDA is well suited to students who:

  • Are keen to make a positive contribution to society
  • Want to avoid the costs of higher education
  • Are unsure a lecture‑based degree is right for them
  • Are looking for a clear, supported route into a professional career

By sharing this pathway with students, you can help them explore a credible, structured and rewarding option that combines education, employment, and service — opening the door to a respected profession and long‑term development.   More information is available here: Careers - Metropolitan Police Careers

Partners include British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, easyJet, CAA, NATS, Manchester Airport Group, and OBAP.

Each selected school will receive three student spaces. If chosen, students will need to make their school representative aware, and their enrolment must be completed through that representative.

Fantasy Wings flyer

Please see the attached flyer for more information. Any interested student interested should email me as soon as possible ewooller@littleheath.org.uk

There are only three places available so it will be a random selection if our school is selected.
