UNIFORM POLICY
Hot Weather
We are aware of a handful of parents and students who have contacted the school with questions about our uniform policy in this hot weather, specifically in terms of shorts. We thought a clarification to all parents would be helpful.
Our uniform policy has been deliberately designed to be as flexible as possible, so that we do not need to change it at short notice when we have hot weather. Students are allowed to wear shorts all year round, as long as they are tailored school shorts. A large number of students have been wearing these shorts throughout the year, with this becoming more popular, as you might imagine, in recent weeks with the increasing temperatures. With a polo shirt and shorts or a skirt, this is just as cool as wearing PE kit, whilst still remaining smart and appropriate for school. Lots of parents have purchased these tailored shorts, in increasing numbers as the year has gone on, so it is unfair on them if individuals now wear PE shorts in this period of hot weather, when the option is available to them to wear tailored shorts all year round.
Some other things to clarify:
- There is no expectation that students should bring their jumpers to school; we would recommend these are left at home when it is so hot;
- Please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle for school; there are plenty of water stations positioned across the school site.
- They should also wear sun lotion, particularly if they plan on staying outside at social times during the school day.
- There are also many shaded areas outside where students can stay cool during break and lunchtimes.
Thank you for your support as we all work together to maintain high standards of learning and safety even in warm weather.

WEST BERKSHIRE LIBRARIES
Volunteer Opportunities
West Berkshire Libraries have a great opportunity for young people to volunteer over the summer holidays. This could be a valuable chance to learn new skills, make a positive contribution to our local community and give you the confidence to talk to adults and children to encourage an enjoyment of reading. It would also look great on your CV!
With over 3,000 children taking part last year in the Summer Reading Challenge, West Berkshire Libraries are again challenging all 4–11-year-olds to participate in the national scheme organised by The Reading Agency. The goal is for each participant to read six books and to visit their local library at least 3 times throughout the summer, encouraging a lifelong love of books, reading and visiting the library.
They are looking for volunteers from Saturday 5 July until Saturday 6 September 2025 to help in all our libraries. Even a couple of hours on a few days during the holidays would make a difference.
