Over the course of the lecture programme students will hear from a variety of speakers to help them make the best application to medicine or dentistry possible! Last year’s lectures included the following:

  • Medical and dental specialities: paediatrics, prosthodontics, renal transplant, maxillofacial and many more!

  • Support for the application process: UCAT, personal statements, and interviews.

  • September Q&A with key admissions colleagues in the school of medicine at KCL, UCL, St George’s, Queen Mary, and Imperial.

  • A session on other careers in healthcare with six professionals currently working and teaching in the sector (nursing, dietetics, clinical science, etc.)

Work Experience in the Arts

The Watermill Theatre

Applications close on 19th January 2024. If you require a work experience placement between March - August 2024, then you need to apply via the application on The Watermill website to be considered. Any late applications will not be considered for that time period and instead be placed into our next recruitment cycle (October 2024 - March 2025).

The Watermill Theatre is a producing theatre, meaning it produces all its own work on-site. If you're interested in set/costume design, wardrobe, stage management, tech, casting, community outreach, marketing or development then this placement for you. The Watermill offers up to 4-day placements, with the flexibility for you to choose what areas of theatre you're interested in.

For more information and application process, please visit: https://www.watermill.org.uk/work_experience

Corn Exchange Newbury

Applications close on 4th March at 10am. This work experience placement will be taking place Monday 8th July - Friday 12th July, where we will be selecting 6 young people to attend. We are unable to offer work experience placements outside of this date.

Corn Exchange Newbury is a receiving theatre, meaning all the shows that take place are made by separate companies. Therefore, we do not offer experience in set/costume design, wardrobe and casting. However, the Corn Exchange hosts a wide array of events from theatre, cinema and community sessions. This work experience week will give you great insight into how a large arts organisation runs and gives youth chance to plan your own event!

Activate Learning – Taster Sessions Y10 & Y11

Reading College& Bracknell & Wokingham College

We are so excited to introduce you to our NEW Taster Session Programme for Year 10 and 11 students!   Between January and May 2024, students in Year 10 and 11 will be able to sign up to bespoke taster sessions on campus, aimed at helping them to make informed decisions about their next steps.

Each session will be completely tailored to a Career Pathway and provide students with the opportunity to sample an activity related to the course, view the facilities, and ask the tutors questions about studying with Activate Learning.

This programme will replace the ‘round robin’ style taster events that we have facilitated over the last couple of years for some schools and has been carefully designed specifically in relation to feedback about these events. Rather than experiencing a given range of activities, students will have complete control over the subject(s) they sign up for and how many they attend.

Students can sign up for the taster sessions here:

Bracknell and Wokingham Taster Sessions - https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/bracknell-and-wokingham-college-taster-sessions-2803759?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=creatorshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=odclsxcollection&utm-source=cp&aff=escb

Reading College Taster Sessions - https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/reading-college-taster-sessions-2803859?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=creatorshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=odclsxcollection&utm-source=cp&aff=escb

If a session is showing as full and one of your students would particularly like to attend, please email schoolspartnership@activatelearning.ac.uk - we will be closely monitoring the demand for sessions and may be able to add in additional slots where possible.
