RSSL – Information Evening Y13

8th February, with 2 slots – either 5.30-6.30pm or 6.30-7.30pm

I wanted to share an exciting opportunity coming up at RSSL. We are pleased to be hosting an Apprentice Open Evening during National Apprentice Week 2024, for prospective students and their parents. There will be a quick introduction presentation from myself about the company, how apprenticeships work and the kind of work they’d be doing, as well as the chance to have a look around a couple of our labs and meet some of our current apprentices. This will be on the evening of 8th February, with 2 slots – either 5.30-6.30pm or 6.30-7.30pm.

Unfortunately, due to limited space we will have to cap the number of people able to attend, so would appreciate if it could be shared with specifically those in Year 13, and studying e.g. Chemistry A-Level, BTEC Applied Science/Forensic Science etc…

Please find below the sign-up link which I would be very grateful if you’re able to share with students/parents, and of course any questions do please let me know.

Creative Careers - Online industry insight: Focus on visual effects (VFX)

Wednesday 31st January, 10 - 10.45am

We're thrilled to be working with our partners at Framestore for this live industry insight event, famous for bringing characters from films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Paddington and Avengers to life.

Visual effects (VFX) is the art of combining computer-generated imagery (CG) with live-action pictures. Think of the dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom or the final battle in Avengers: Infinity War. If a scene in a film can’t be captured on camera, it’s made through the ingenuity of VFX.

There are lots of different types of roles in this thriving sector, from artists, programmers, producers, managers and many more - it's home to a full spectrum of skill sets, from art to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Many roles also require both set of skills.

During the session, your students will hear from members of the Framestore team who have worked on Loki Season 2 . They will share more about their specific roles and their involvement in the series and also discuss their own career paths before offering some tips and advice for young people wanting to enter the industry.

Medical & Dental Work Experience

I hope you're doing well. We understand how challenging it can be for students to secure meaningful work experience in the fields of dentistry and medicine. That's why attending a Get Into Medicine or Get Into Dentistry conference is crucial, as it provides INSTANT access to our Virtual Work Experience programmes.

Virtual work experiences have been accepted by the Medical Schools and Dental Schools Council as valuable alternatives to traditional, in-person shadowing, and this month we're diving into the fascinating world of Emergency Medicine and Dental Hygiene, Dentures & Difficult Decisions.

Students can find out more here:
https://medicmentor.org/university-hospitals-birmingham-trust-virtual-work-experience/

Participating in this virtual work experience not only opens doors for students to gain insights and opportunities that may otherwise be hard to access but also serves as a crucial step in preparing them for their upcoming physical placements. Partnering with Birmingham Universities Hospitals Trust, our Virtual Work Experience has been a game-changer for thousands of secondary school students in the past year.

Combined with the essential knowledge on how to get into medicine or dentistry and valuable advice from doctors and dentists shared at the Get Into conferences, registering for the conference becomes vital.

If your students aged 14-18 haven't yet attended a Get Into Conference but are interested in joining the Virtual Work Experience, they can sign up for the upcoming conferences on these dates to gain INSTANT access after attending:

For aspiring Doctors: FREE LIVE VIRTUAL Get Into Medicine conference dates:
Saturday 27th January, 9:30am - 3:30pm
Saturday 3rd February, 9:30am - 3:30pm
Sunday 4th February, 9:30am - 3:30pm

For aspiring Dentists: FREE LIVE VIRTUAL Get Into Dentistry conference date:

Throughout these conferences, students will have the chance to interact directly with doctors, dentists, and medical and dental students LIVE. They'll gain critical information to make a competitive application to study medicine or dentistry at university.

Students aged 14 - 18 are invited to attend with a parent or guardian, equipped with a working camera and microphone.
