The Reading Scholars Program - Y12

The Reading Scholars programme aims to give Year 12 students a real taste of life as a university undergraduate, and provides practical support as participants begin their higher education application process. Comprising of 3 on-campus events (February, March and a residential in July) as well as a series of online virtual events and featuring input from leading academics and current undergraduate mentors, the programme will challenge participants academically and enhance current studies. Activities include support from a current student mentor, university-style subject-specific and study skills sessions, and working towards an academic project

Costs:

All costs related to participation in the programme, including transport, lunch, refreshments and accommodation for on-campus events, are covered in advance for participating students, who will also get to take part in a range of fun team-building and social events.

Entry requirements:

Students participating in the programme will have achieved at least five GCSE’s at grade 4 and above, and be on course to achieve good grades at A Level or equivalent. The programme is targeted at students who fall into our priority groups (for example, those living in particular postcodes, in receipt of Free School Meals, Looked After, etc.). Read our full selection criteria here https://static.reading.ac.uk/content/PDFs/files/Scholarships/Reading-Scholars-Eligibility.pdf?dm_t=0,0,0,0,0

Law Degree Apprenticeship – Insight Day

Following on from a successful webinar hosted by Associated British Foods, I am inviting Year 13 students at your school to attend an in-person insight day (they did not need to attend the webinar to apply).

This fantastic experience will look great on post-18 applications and help students in solicitor degree apprenticeship applications. It will also be beneficial for students exploring post-18 apprentice options as Associated British Foods are looking to hire 2+ apprentices in their in-house legal team in 2024.

Overview:

Insight day at the Associated British Foods London office. A chance to explore the office, network with staff and complete group activities. Workshops of the day will include further information about Associated British Foods and an application masterclass. This will take place on Wednesday 24th January.

Travel expenses associated with the insight day will be reimbursed. Lunch will be provided.

In order to be eligible for this programme, students must meet the following basic eligibility criteria:

  • Be in Year 13 at the time of their application.
