BMW Apprenticeships

BMet are hosting a virtual BMW event on Tuesday 12th March starting at 6:00 pm to inform your students of the apprenticeship opportunities available with BMW starting in September 2024.

BMW have a range of apprenticeships on offer and this event will provide your students with an insight into the apprenticeships, as well as how to apply and what the interview process looks like. We will also be able to answer any questions you might have.

Applications for your Year 12 students to apply for the Black Achievement Conference are now open!

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is offering your pupils of black heritage the chance to take part in the Black Achievement Conference and experience our world leading university first-hand.

The conference engages a host of contributors, including LSE students, staff and alumni. There will be a full and varied programme, enabling participants to gain an insight into university life, study, and the university application process.

 

In keeping with the theme of Black History Month, the theme for the 2024 conference is “Saluting Our Sisters”. This opportunity is available to students of Black heritage aged 16-17 (Year 12 or equivalent).

Girls into Electronics – Y11 & Y12

Girls into Electronics is a series of one day events that are being hosted by leading universities across the UK this summer. The events are ideal for girls in years 11 and 12, thinking about studying Electronics, Computer Science or Engineering. Participants will get the chance to hear from female staff and students at the university, from female graduates working in the Electronics industry as well as Apple Engineers, have a tour of the university’s facilities, and also get an introduction to microcontrollers. They can keep the microcontroller kit and get online support to complete a range of practical experiments.

The Day's third Global Young Journalist Awards

Do you have a student that wants to change the world, is passionate about their subject, or whose voice needs to be heard?  Please encourage them to enter The Day's third Global Young Journalist Awards! Launching today, March 8th 2024, the competition is FREE to enter for 7-18-year-olds worldwide.

Entries can be submitted in a variety of media formats including written articles, photography, illustration, podcast, video and graphic design.  Plus, with 10 entry categories to choose from, there is a topic for everyone making this a great whole-school activity!

The Bank of England has just launched its Innovation Competition for 2024 

Paid Summer Internship

The competition provides students aged 16+ from across the UK with the opportunity to win a paid summer internship at the Bank of England. To enter, students must answer the following question – The aim of the Bank of England and Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) is to promote the safety and soundness of the firms we regulate. How can data and technology help us to achieve that?

Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service – Paid Summer Internship

This year, we will offer five positions as part of the Summer Internship to 17 or 18-year-old residents of Berkshire who are from backgrounds that are currently under-represented within our Service.

The scheme is paid internship and will give students a fantastic opportunity to begin developing their workplace skills and within a modern fire and rescue service. The internship will last for five weeks in the summer. To accommodate the different exam schedules of 17-year-old applicants, we have revised the dates for this year’s internship programme.

This year, the scheme will run from 29 July 2024 to 30 August 2024. We will be accepting applications for this year’s scheme via the recruitment portal on our website until 11:59pm on Sunday, 24 March.

Ministry of Defence Apprenticeships

The SDA is looking for talented, motivated, and creative potential engineers to join their Level 3 Waterfront Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme and become Engineers of the future. This 3 year scheme is open to anyone over the age of 16 years at the start of the apprenticeship in September 2024 and the salary is £22,240 for this role.

During this four-year programme, successful applicants will undertake a comprehensive program of study associated with the Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer standard ST0289 while earning a salary of £25,270 per annum. Year 1 of the scheme will be full time in college, based in the National College for Nuclear. During year 2, 3, and 4 students will have the opportunity to carry out a number of work-based technical placements and defence specific nuclear training.

Due to the secure nature of these positions, posts will be reserved for UK Nationals only and may require students to obtain Developed Vetting clearance once in post.

BCOT  - Student Support Session

Just wanted to flag with you all for your students who have made applications to us and will need more support, or who you think they or their parents could do with extra support, we are running a Student Support Evening on 20th March 17:00 to 18:30. The team are there to discuss EHCPs, exam arrangements, transition work, counselling, in-classroom support, additional needs and 1:1 support. The event will run on a drop-in basis, they book an arrival time via the ticket system on our website to allow our staff enough time to speak with everyone. Y11 - Autism Summer School

Applications are now open for our free-to-attend Year 11 Autism Summer School. 

  

This 1-night residential aims to give autistic students and their parent/carer the chance to experience higher education and university life. This event is open to Year 11 students (in any educational setting, including those who are home educated) who are due to take their GCSE examinations (or equivalent) in summer 2024 and are aiming for mostly grade 6/B or above in their GCSEs (or equivalent), with a minimum of 4/C in Maths and English Language. 

  

Students do not need to have an official autism diagnosis to attend, as long as they self-identify as autistic.

Y10 - Smallpeice Trust – Explore Engineering (residential) 

The Smallpeice Trust is working with the University of Bath to deliver a Year 10 residential on the theme of ‘Explore Engineering’. 

 Leading academics from the University of Bath will deliver a series of short, but informative lectures and lead a series of interactive activities, bringing Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Civil engineering to life.
