SATCHEL:ONE UPDATE
Student action required
Satchel:One has recently had an update, and we have been made aware that students can see the assignment they have been set, but no quiz button. In order to fix this issue, students will need to sign out and sign back in again from the app, to ensure the quizzes show up.
'CELEBRATION OF CULTURES' DAY
Thursday 3 April
On Thursday 3 April we will hold our annual 'Celebration of Cultures' Day. It is a day when we embrace and celebrate all the cultures and heritage that make up our vibrant community. Our Sixth Form Diversity Society has been working incredibly hard throughout this year to plan an enjoyable and informative event.
This will be a whole school non-uniform day, and we are inviting students to dress in clothes or colours that represent their culture. Students who wish to participate in the non-uniform day will need to donate £1 to their tutor on, or before, Thursday 3 April. The non-uniform money raised will be donated to the charity Caritas India - a leading humanitarian and development organisation committed to creating a just and sustainable society where the values of love, equality, and peace are nurtured and lived. You can find out more about the charity here: Caritas India.
The Diversity Society students will also be running some stalls during break time on 3 April. As well as information about particular countries, the stalls will offer pre-packed snacks from different cultures which students may wish to buy. We would encourage all students to bring some loose change with them.
Our 'Celebration of Cultures' Day is preceded by our Cultural Celebration evening at 6:00pm on Tuesday 1 April in the Main Hall. There will be performances by students from years 7-13, followed by a fashion show to showcase different cultural dress. Tickets for this evening event, priced at £2, are available to purchase via ParentMail.
We are looking forward to two very enjoyable events.
SHORTS DURING WARMER WEATHER
Last summer we ran a trial of students wearing shorts when the weather was warm. We have made the decision to add this option to our uniform policy going forward.
All students will be allowed to wear shorts. They must be smart, tailored black shorts. No other styles will be acceptable.
GREAT BRITISH SPRING CLEAN
21 March–6 April
Litter blights our streets, parks and beaches and costs us millions of pounds to clear up every year. The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean 2025 will take place from 21 March to 6 April, and you can pledge to pick up a bag of litter – or more – from today.
We have pledged to collect 60 bags as a school at our 'Trash Dash' next week; and from our joint litter pick with Springfield Primary School on Thursday 3 April. If you would like to take part in supporting this countrywide initiative to look after our community and our planet, you can make your pledge here: Join the Great British Spring Clean | Keep Britain Tidy
ATTENDANCE
Information for parents from the Department for Education
Every moment in school counts and days missed add up quickly. Evidence shows that pupils who have good attendance experience better wellbeing and school performance than those who don't.
The school day is split into two sessions – one session counts as a morning or afternoon spent in school. There are only a few occasions where a child is allowed to miss school, such as illness or where the school has given permission because of an exceptional circumstance.
However, if your child misses school without a good reason, local councils and schools can intervene, and you may be issued a fine. We have also introduced a national framework which will mean all councils have the same rules in place for when they need to consider a fine. We will explain more in this letter: Attendance Information letter for Parents March 2025
