FOODBANK HOUSE COMPETITION
Closes Friday 13 November

We have been working with the West Berks Foodbank, a charity organisation and member of the Trussell Trust, that works hard to collect food donations and distribute them to people in need in the West Berks area on a weekly basis.

We are linking this appeal with our annual in-school house competition. The house that collects the most food will receive the most house points to add to the running total.

The house competition will launch to all year groups in the week commencing w/c 19 October with the aim of raising as much food aid as possible before the deadline date of Friday 13 November.

We would be hugely appreciative of any food items that you could donate to the appeal. Generally, these need to be long-life products that are in date, such as . . .

  • tinned, dried or packet food items
    • tinned veg
    • pasta sauce
    • UHT milk
    • coffee
    • cereal
    • tinned tomatoes
    • sugar
    • sponge puddings
  • Toiletries and household items
    • toilet roll
    • shower gel
    • deodorant

All donated items can be brought to T19 in the Geography Block or handed to any geography teacher.

Thank you!

THE BIG FUTURE
The Children's Commissioner Survey for Children

The Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, promotes and protects the rights of children, and ensures voices are heard by those who make decisions about their lives. She has launched her latest survey, The Big Future, to give children a real say in the changes that are needed to ensure that childhood is a time of flourishing and growth.

The Big Future is open until Friday 23 October and asks children about childhood today – about the things that worry them, the things they love, the ways they have fun, and the changes they want for a better future.

At a time when there is a mood of doubt across Westminster and the nation at large about how we raise our children, from screen time to schooling, we will be granting those same children the right to vote. For the first time, hundreds of thousands of children will be eligible to vote in the next general election at age 16, the biggest change to the franchise in half a century – yet just one in five children say politicians listen to them.

It is more urgent than ever to make sure that children’s voices are heard by those in power. Here’s the link to the survey: About this survey : The Big Future survey - have your say!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Community Event House Competition

All year groups are invited to enter the Black History Month House Competition this month. We want them to create a plan for a Community Event with a Black History Month theme.

They need to consider:

  • When would it be?
  • What kind of event would it be?
  • Who would lead/present/perform?
  • How would your event be celebrating black History Month within the community?
  • Who would be invited, and why?
  • What would you hope the outcome of the event to be?

Students should hand their entries to Mrs Canning or email them to pcanning@littleheath.org.uk no later than Friday 6 November.
