KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE
School Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are asking for your further support in ensuring the safety of our students at the start and end of the school day at the front of school. We would like to remind you of our recommendations to keep everyone safe:
- Please do not drive onto site between 8:30-9:00am and 3:10pm -3:45pm.
- When picking up or dropping off students, allow yourself plenty of time as the area is likely to be busy.
- Do not park on yellow zigzag lines on Little Heath Road.
- Avoid parking near to or opposite our gates.
- Please do not block driveways or access ways.
- We suggest parking further away in one of the side roads.
We always encourage students to walk or cycle to school if they are able, or to use public transport. For more information about getting to school safely, please visit our website: Little Heath School - Transport to School
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us keep our school community safe.
LITTER, WASTE & RECYCLING
at Little Heath School
This term, Mr Ramsden has spoken to all year groups to encourage their support in using bins correctly, recycling effectively and managing litter around the school. Last term, we installed new outdoor recycling bins, and we are currently relabelling all bins with clear signage to maximise recycling across the school. This will help reduce the cost of sorting waste that has been placed in the wrong bins.
We are also reintroducing daily tutor group litter picks, alongside regular community litter picks, to help address litter on and around the school site.
How can you help at home?
-
Model good practice by recycling at home and avoiding littering.
-
A large proportion of our litter consists of plastic bottles and crisp packaging. By using a reusable water bottle, we can significantly reduce the number of bottles brought into school. It is school policy for all students to bring a refillable water bottle each day. These are available to purchase from Resources and via ParentMail. Find out more here: Little Heath School - Required Equipment & Stationery
-
While we are unable to recycle soft plastics in school (such as crisp packets, plastic sandwich bags and chocolate wrappers), these can be recycled at most local supermarkets.
If your child brings a packed lunch:
-
Consider providing a ‘litter-free lunch’ by choosing items without packaging and using reusable containers and wraps.
-
Encourage your child to dispose of any packaging and food waste correctly at school, or to bring it home with them.
SWEET TUB COLLECTION
Tub2Pub Scheme
Greene King's ‘Tub2Pub’ is a recycling campaign to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and to recycle plastic sweet and cracker tubs. Last year we collected over 640 tubs which contributed to their total of over 240,000 tubs saved from landfill, raising an incredible £10,916 for Macmillan Cancer Support!
Please bring any plastic sweet tubs, chocolate tubs and cracker tubs (plastic only please, no metal) to Resources. Please ensure you have them labelled with your HOUSE or you tell us your House when you drop them off so we can keep a tally.
