HOT WEATHER
Recommendations for Students

With the temperatures set to rise further next week, here are a few reminders to help students to cope in the heat:

  • Students should bring a refillable water bottle each day. We have several places to refill on site, but students are welcome to bring an additional bottle. We encourage students to use a reusable bottle rather than a single use plastic bottle - this helps to minimise litter on the school site and is better all round for the environment. Bottles can be purchased on ParentMail and in Resources for £3.50.
    • Information on our required equipment can be found on our website here: Little Heath School - Required Equipment & Stationery
  • Students are also permitted to wear shorts in the hot weather, as per our uniform policy. Shorts must be smart, tailored and appropriate for school.
    • Information on our uniform policy can be found on our website here: Little Heath School - Uniform
  • We would encourage students to use sun protection during the school day. We advise applying sun screen and wearing a sun hat.
  • If your child suffers with hayfever, please ensure they take antihistamine medication.

SPORTS DAY
Friday 26 June

Friday 26 June will be our annual Sports Day afternoon. There will be a slight change to the timings of the day which can be found in the letter below.

Students are welcome to come to school in their house colours (green for Arundel, yellow for Warwick, blue for Conway and red for Stirling). This is a non-uniform day in house colours and there is no charge to students for coming in on this day. Non uniform must, of course, be safe and appropriate for school. Please note ‘cropped-tops’ and very short, tight shorts are not acceptable or appropriate for school wear.

Students who are competing in the afternoon events should bring either their PE kit or sportswear, in their house colours, to change into at lunchtime.

Students are advised to bring some cash with them as there will be an ice cream van and our ASDAN group will also be running a stall selling sweets and drinks. Both the stall and the ice cream van will only take cash. All students must bring a sunhat and suncream as well as a bottle of water specifically for the afternoon.

For more information, please read the letter here: LHS Sports Day 2026. This letter was also emailed home earlier this week.

We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable day!

MUSIC TOUR TO PARIS
Trip Cancelled

Unfortunately, we did not reach the required number of students to run the proposed trip. While we are very disappointed not to be able to proceed at this time, we are looking into ways of making the trip accessible to a larger group of students and hope to re-launch in the new academic year.

If you paid a deposit, it will be refunded in full by the finance department and should be visible in your account by Monday 22 June.

Thank you for your continued support of the music department. If you have any further questions, please do get in touch with Mrs Berkeley at gberkeley@littleheath.org.uk.

SCHOOLS' CELEBRATION RACEDAY
Newbury Racecourse, Wednesday 26 August

Newbury Racecourse is excited to unveil a new initiative giving school-age children and their families the opportunity to experience the thrill of live racing free of charge. Launched with youngsters from Stockcross CE Primary School, the Racecourse’s newly named Schools’ Celebration Raceday is set to take place on Wednesday 26 August.

Alongside an afternoon’s racing, pupils, parents and family members will enjoy a range of fun, activities and entertainment off the track, including face painting, arts & crafts, interactive games and live music.

Pupils, from pre-primary, primary and secondary schools in Berkshire and the surrounding counties, are eligible to receive free admission – as part of Newbury Racecourse’s popular Under 18s go free scheme – and can claim free tickets for two adult family members, as well as heavily discounted tickets for additional family members.

To find out more, and to register your free tickets, visit their website here: Pupils & Parents To Enjoy Racing For Free This August | Newbury Racecourse

PUBERTY DAY
Monday 22 June

This Monday is Puberty Day for our Year 7 students. They will have a two-hour single-sex session led by our PSHE teachers.

The sessions will focus on the following topics:

  • The male and female sexual organs.
  • What happens to the male and female bodies and how the brain changes during puberty.
  • An explanation of menstruation and sanitary products available. The girls will be given a sample of products.
  • An explanation of Female Genital Mutilation and where to seek support if concerned about this topic for yourself or a friend.

If you have any concerns or questions about the topics we will be covering, please do get in touch with one of us to discuss them. These topics are part of the statutory health curriculum that we must deliver to all of our pupils. Therefore, all the content follows the statutory guidance from the Department for Education.

More details are included in this letter which has been emailed home today: Y7 Puberty Day Letter June 2026
