WELLBEING NEWSLETTER
Issue 14 – Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year's theme is 'ACTION'. We’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together we are even more powerful.

LHS OPEN EVENTS
For Year 7 Admissions – September 2027

If you are looking for a secondary school place for your Year 5 child (September 2027), or know someone who is, come along to our Open Evening on Thursday 17 September.

CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS
West Berkshire Immunisation Team Information 

The West Berkshire Immunisation team visit all schools in the West Berkshire area, offering routine vaccinations including Flu vaccines in the Autumn term, Tetanus/diptheria/polio boosters and Meningitis ACWY in Spring term, HPV in Summer term and any catch-up MMR vaccines.

They are available to support families, answer any questions from parents and carers, and can check pupils' vaccine history. Highly anxious pupils, or those with additional needs, can also be seen in one of their clinics, some of which now have the support of a therapy dog.

Free Period Pants Giveaway

The period products charity "All Yours" will be running a free period pants giveaway, at Theale Library on Saturday 30 May.

BANK HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
Sunday 24 and Monday 25 May

The Berkshire Country Show and The Berkshire Festival of Dogs take place at Farley Estate, Swallowfield Park, Reading, RG7 1TH on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 May 2026.

The event promises to be a fantastic day out for all ages, with a wide range of activities and entertainment for the whole community to enjoy. Watch the Shetland Pony Racing, Kangaroo Kid Stunts, Jonothan Marshall from Game of Thrones on horseback, Cookery Demos, a K-pop tribute, Magic, Fire shows and so much more.

SPORTS DAY
Pre-Events Sign Up by 20 May

Sports Day will take place on Friday 26 June. After half-term, we will begin the field events and the long distance track races. Students who wish to represent their House at one of the following events need to sign up with their Tutor no later than Wednesday 20 May:

  • Long Jump​
  • Javelin​
  • Shot Put​
  • 1500m​
  • 800m

Only students who have signed up can take part. Students must wear their PE kit. They may also like to wear a House coloured top. The pre-events for Year 8 are on Friday 12 June, period 5.

 

PAGES FOR POINTS
DEAR Time House Competition

After half-term, KS3 students will be competing for our new DEAR Engagement praise points awarded for our Drop Everything And Read daily sessions. 

Points can be awarded for...

  • Bringing your DEAR time book and are ready to read every session
  • Remaining focussed and not distracting others during DEAR time
  • Showing resilience if you are struggling and using resources to help you (e.g. DEAR bookmark)
  • Challenging yourself with the book you choose to read

The competition runs from Monday 1 June to Friday 26 June.

 

BUILD A MARBLE RUN
Technology House Competition

The Technology department are challenging students to build the longest marble run, only using sustainable materials. 

You can build the marble run at home, with friends or in your tutor group using items that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled.

Entries must be submitted by video or photos to Ms Bell by Sunday 21 June. If it has been created in form, let Ms Bell know so she can come and judge it.

VIRTUAL PARENTS' EVENING
Thursday 4 June

As Year 9 is an important point in your child’s journey through their GCSEs, we invite you to book appointments with your child’s teachers during the Virtual Parents’ Evening on Thursday 4 June. 

Our online appointment booking system opens at 7:00pm on Monday 18 May, and the system will close on Sunday 24 May at 11:59pm. Unfortunately, video appointments cannot be made after Sunday 24 May.

Not all classes will be available to book at this time, but further notification will be sent out when those classes are available. More information can be found in this letter: Y9 Parents' Evening Information Letter

OLIVIA BAILEY MP SUMMER SCHOOL
For 18-25 year olds

Applications are now open for Olivia Bailey MP's 2026 Summer School for young people across Reading West & Mid-Berkshire. If your child is aged 18 or over and is interested in politics, campaigning, public service or making a difference locally, this is their chance to get hands-on experience of life in Parliament and build valuable skills for the future.

When: 3–7 August 2026
For residents of Reading West & Mid-Berkshire
Applications close: 30 May

They will hear from guest speakers, learn how Parliament works, and design their own campaign on local issues.
