Lewis Silkin Scholarship Scheme - Law

Apply by 11 July 2026

Started in memory of two treasured colleagues, the Ellen & Nikki scholarship scheme supports social mobility by providing assistance to law students.  The scholarship scheme seeks to provide financial support to bright young people embarking on their university career.

We recognise that the cost of higher education can be a deterrent for many and poses a barrier to social mobility. Through the scholarship scheme, we look to provide some financial assistance to those who will benefit from it the most.

Successful applicants will:

  • Receive a financial award of £3,000 paid at in the first term of their first, second and third year at university to help with living expenses, purchase of course materials, society memberships or other expenses incurred
  • Have the opportunity to undertake work experience at one of the firm’s offices, at a time convenient for both you and the firm
  • Benefit from a mentoring programme with one of our lawyers to offer advice on a career in law as you start your career

To apply you must:

  • Be a sixth-form student at a UK state (non-fee paying) school or sixth form college
  • Be applying to study law (or a law-related) degree at a university in the UK from September 2025
  • Be passionate about pursuing a career in law
  • Not have been convicted of a criminal offence

In addition, at least one of the following must apply to you:

  • You are eligible for free school meals, even if you do not claim them (or, where you attend a college, you would be eligible for free school meals if you attended a school)
  • You attend a school where at least 25% of pupils are eligible for free school meals (or, where you attend a college, immediately prior to attending that college you attended a school where at least 25% of pupils are eligible for free school meals)
  • You will be in the first generation of your family to go to university
  • You have refugee status or are seeking asylum
  • You have been in local authority care
  • You have been responsible for the long-term care of a sick or disabled family member

The deadline for submitting the online application form is Friday 10 July 2026.

Wanted to flag an apprenticeship opportunity we will have in my team that is open to school-leavers! If you know of any keen and suitable Y11+ students looking for an apprenticeship opportunity, do point them in our direction.

Our marketing team are looking for a Administration and Events Apprentice – Fixed Term for 18 Months. The post holder will play a hands-on part in supporting the College across admissions, events and marketing functions, all while working towards a Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship.

The role combines hands-on administrative work with structured training, enabling the apprentice to develop professional skills while contributing to high-quality customer service and events.

Insight Events & Work Experience

 

First Intuition - Accountancy Insight Days Y10 – Y13

First Intuition Reading is excited to provide a free two-day event once again for students in Years 10, 11, 12 & 13 who have an interest in an accountancy career.  Over the two days we will introduce them to the world of accountancy, discuss the different routes into the industry, review CV’s and discuss interview skills and tips.  The programme is run by our friendly and experienced staff in our Reading office. (All staff are DBS checked, and we follow safer recruitment procedures.)

Hot and cold drinks will be available throughout the day. However, lunch will not be provided. The centre is located near the Reading town centre which provides a variety of lunch options and there is a cafe in the building.  The event will run on the 16th & 17th July 2026 from 09.30am to 3.30pm.

DAY ONE – 16th July

DAY TWO - 17th July

Throughout this City Centry programme, you will have the chance to experience what it's like to be a solicitor apprentice in a commercial law team. You will complete tasks that simulate the work that a commercial law apprentice would tackle on a daily basis.

CBRE: Job Simulation

A risk-free way to experience work on the job with CBRE. Practice your skills with example tasks and build your confidence to ace your applications.

Operating across every dimension of commercial real estate, CBRE sees more so you can do more. During this programme, you will get the opportunity to step into the shoes of a CBRE team member and complete tasks that replicate the work that their real estate sales team do every day. You’ll learn skills revolving around communication, reasoning, and financial knowledge.

Kings Academy Prospect

Re: Post16 Hair Professionals Course.

I am writing from Pros6, the sixth form at King's Academy Prospect regarding an exciting opportunity for some of your students.

We have a few spaces left on our Hair Professionals course and hope you may be able to share the attached post16 course flyer & details sheet with your current Yr11 cohort. We would be especially interested to hear from those who are considering pursuing a hair qualification at college next year, but may find the college environment challenging.

Uni Go! is a three-day, two-night residential, designed to give you a first-hand experience of life as a university student. In the summer after Year 12, you'll stay in student accommodation and try your hand at a wide range of activities, from sports sessions to drama workshops. The aim? To give you the confidence and skills you need to make empowered choices about your own future.

Ravensbourne University: Discovery Days

These days are designed to give you a real insight into studying at Ravensbourne. You will take part in a structured, hands-on workshop working in small groups on a “Dragons’ Den”-style project. You will explore a real-world problem and develop a solution using creative, technology and business thinking, ending the day by pitching the ideas to a small, supportive panel. Queens University: Dentistry Taster Days

The Dental programme at Queen’s University Belfast is seen as one of the most innovative in the UK and has always been recognised in external reviews for its excellent and high quality teaching standards and facilities. The Dental School at Queen’s has been responsible for delivering dental education in Northern Ireland since 1920.

To find out more about studying Dentistry at Queen's and to help with any queries at this time QUB is providing an opportunity for prospective students to attend an open day at the school. Please note the school is at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Grosvenor Road, Belfast.

The programme for the event will include a review of the course, career opportunities, a tour of the Dental School and a question and answer session. There will be an opportunity to "try your hand" at some dentistry in our Clinical Techniques Lab as well as meet and chat to our current students.
