INFORMATION EVENING FOR PARENTS/CARERS
Supporting Young People with their Mental Health
Tuesday 13 October 2026

As part of our ongoing efforts and work to support our young people with their wellbeing, we have been working with Time To Talk, a Newbury-based counselling service.

To coincide with World Mental Health Day on Saturday 10 October, we have invited Time to Talk to host a mental health and well-being information evening at school aimed at those living with or supporting a child or young person. The session will draw upon our collective knowledge and experience of working with this age group with a view to sharing the information that we have found most useful as both practitioners and parents ourselves.

This information evening is on Tuesday 13 October at 6:00pm in the Main Hall. Please note that this evening is for parents and carers only – not for students as the input from Time to Talk will be directed towards parents.

If you would like to join us, please complete the online form by midday on Tuesday 13 October. The link to the online form is here: MH & WB Information Evening | Tuesday 13 October 2026

For more information, you can read the letter here: Time to Talk Mental Health & Wellbeing Information Evening letter October 2026

WELLBEING NEWSLETTER
Issue 15–October 2026

Please find our latest edition of the Wellbeing Newsletter. This issue focusses on World Mental Health Day and the theme of 'Real Voices, Real Change'. There are lots of tips and links that will help you to support young people with their mental health and wellbeing.

DETENTION FINISH TIME
Temporary Change

If your child is due to attend an SLT DT on either of the following dates, please be aware that the session will finish at 4:30pm instead of 5:00pm:

  • Wednesday 14 October
  • Wednesday 21 October

This is a temporary change, and SLT DTs will return to their usual arrangements after the October half-term.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

RESPECT FOR STAFF
During Drop off and Pick up

We would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers of the importance of keeping the area immediately outside the school safe for everyone.

Please do not park on the zig zag or double yellow lines, on pavements, or stop in a way that causes an obstruction. Please do not block access to side roads, driveways and the school gates. These restrictions are in place to ensure that children can enter and leave the school safely, with clear visibility for both pedestrians and drivers. Parking directly opposite the gates also causes issues for the buses turning into the school entrance.

We expect all members of our school community to treat our staff and one another with courtesy and respect at all times. Verbal abuse towards staff is unacceptable.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us to keep our children, families and staff safe.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR TIMETABLE
Updated October 2026

We have made some additions to the Extra-Curricular Timetable for the Autumn Term. You can find it on our website here: Extra Curricular | Little Heath School

FOODBANK HOUSE COMPETITION
Closes Friday 13 November

We have been working with the West Berks Foodbank, a charity organisation and member of the Trussell Trust, that works hard to collect food donations and distribute them to people in need in the West Berks area on a weekly basis.

We are linking this appeal with our annual in-school house competition. The house that collects the most food will receive the most house points to add to the running total.

The house competition will launch to all year groups in the week commencing w/c 19 October with the aim of raising as much food aid as possible before the deadline date of Friday 13 November.

We would be hugely appreciative of any food items that you could donate to the appeal. Generally, these need to be long-life products that are in date, such as . . .

  • tinned, dried or packet food items
    • tinned veg
    • pasta sauce
    • UHT milk
    • coffee
    • cereal
    • tinned tomatoes
    • sugar
    • sponge puddings
  • Toiletries and household items
    • toilet roll
    • shower gel
    • deodorant

All donated items can be brought to T19 in the Geography Block or handed to any geography teacher.

Thank you!

GIRLS CODING CLUB
Bayer Trip Deadline – Monday 19 October

At Little Heath School we are running clubs and events for KS3 girls to learn more about Computer Science and hopefully consider working in the field as a career in the future.  There is a national (and global) undertaking of the jobs in this sector by women.

Year 7 girls are invited to take part in this trip to Bayer on Monday 23 November. The aim of the event is for girls to gain exposure to STEM careers that are typically male-dominated and to develop their algorithmic thinking skills.

If you wish your daughter to take part in this trip, please complete the consent form and submit payment by Monday 19 October. More details are included in this letter: Y7 Computer Science | Bayer Trip Nov 2026

KS3 ART SESSION
Remembrance Day Poppies

Year 7 and Year 8 students are invited to attend an after-school Art session on Tuesday 3 November, 3:30-5:00pm in R1. They will be making poppies from wire and wool to commemorate Remembrance Day.

We have 25 spaces available at a cost of £2 per person. Places will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should come to the Art Office with £2 cash to sign up.

SCIENCE REVISION GUIDE & WORKBOOK
Available on ParentMail

We would like to give you an opportunity to purchase a Science revision guide and workbook for Key Stage 3. You may have already purchased the revision guide for older siblings, so please ensure that you haven’t already done so. The details are as follows:

  • KS3 Science Study Guide – Higher    ISBN: 9781841462301
  • KS3 Science Workbook    ISBN: 9781841462394

This CGP Revision Guide explains everything students need to know for Key Stage Three Science. Every topic is explained with clear, friendly notes, diagrams and examples, and there are practice questions with answers at the back to test the crucial skills.

The workbook gives practice questions which pupils can use for revision for end of topic tests or end of year tests. It covers content for both year 7 and 8 science.

There is no obligation to purchase the books and we will not use them in school. They will be for home use so you can support your child in their independent learning.

The cost of the guide is £3.85 and the workbook is £6.85. They can easily be paid for via ParentMail. The deadline for orders is Monday 2 November at 3.30pm. We will place the order after this date and, when received, the books will be handed out to students in their classes. Please be advised that we cannot accept any orders after this date.

If your child qualifies for Pupil Premium, the guide and workbook will automatically be ordered for you and given to your child.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any issues relating to this.
