Pupil Premium & Free School Meals

From September 2026, all children whose families receive universal credit will be eligible for a free school meal. The government has made this a legal entitlement through the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026, meaning more children will be able to benefit from this scheme.

There are now two categories of benefits related to Free School Meals:

Targeted Free School Meals (FSM) –

Children qualify if their household receives universal credit and has an annual income of £7,400 or less (excluding benefits)

Expanded Free School Meals (FSM) –

A new category covering students who do not qualify for targeted FSM, but who are in a household receiving universal credit.

This additional funding is used by schools in order to help close the achievement gap between children from disadvantaged families and their peers.

Little Heath School is committed to ensuring that all pupils who receive funding are supported throughout their educational career. We have very high aspirations for all of our pupils, regardless of their starting place and closing the gap for those who need extra support is one of our key objectives as a school.

The extra funding is allocated directly to schools who may spend the money as they see fit in order to benefit those who qualify. There is a requirement for schools to publish summary reports outlining how the Pupil Premium funding has been spent and the impact this has had on student attainment.

If you would like to request any type of support for your child, whether it be to directly support their progress or to help with learning, funding for specific extracurricular activities or help with curriculum pathways, then please contact Ms Glasgow via email at eglasgow@littleheath.org.uk

Students in receipt of Targeted FSM, or Expanded FSM are able to receive a free breakfast item from the canteen every day before school. A healthy breakfast helps to facilitate concentration and energy throughout the rest of the day.

If you have any questions, please email Ms Glasgow, eglasgow@littleheath.org.uk.
