Careers in Racing

British racing has launched HorsePWR, a new communications campaign designed to share and promote the facts around welfare in horseracing. The campaign’s new platform provides the facts about the sport and the Thoroughbred, to share information about their purpose, the lives they lead and the high welfare and safety standards that underpin British Racing.

Racing’s new digital hub brings together in one place all the most important information on horse welfare – easy to find, easy to read – with facts and data provided and questions answered. HorsePWR also explores the areas that racing has committed to improve, from reducing risk on and off the racecourse to better supporting horses when they leave the sport

As we come into the flat season of the racing calendar, this could be the perfect chance to take a look at our Careers in Racing website

or check out the vast mix of video content we have on YouTube where you can learn about all the opportunities and options in the industry.

Need more information or would like some careers advice? Feel free to contact the team via our social media channels below or email

If you are looking for a job in horseracing, visit our Job Board to see the live opportunities currently available.

Work Experience

St Catherine’s Church Holiday Club Volunteering in the Holidays

I am enquiring on behalf of St Catherine's Church, as we are currently in the process of organising a Holiday Club for Primary school age children for a few days in August. I have attached the poster invite for the event.

My reason for this email is to ask whether you know of any students (maybe members of the Smile Team, School Ambassadors or Prefects) who may be interested in (up to) three mornings volunteering during 19 to 21 August. Their roles would be as group helpers or activity helpers; the activities will be craft, singing, games and science experiments. The students would not have sole responsibility for anything as there will be a leader for each age group as well as activity leaders.

I have been advised that the students will not require DBS checks but the church will be hosting some safeguarding training which the students will be required to complete. An in-person training session is planned for Saturday 18 May.

If any students are interested, please can you encourage them to contact St Catherine's Church (email FAO Jo Hands. An information/training session about the Holiday Club is planned for Tuesday 16 July at 7pm.

Please see flyers attached

Medical & Dental WX

Work experience is a crucial aspect of a student's journey into a medical career. Not only is it beneficial to observe doctors or dentists in action but what sets someone apart is truly understanding their roles, decision-making processes, and the dynamics of working within a multidisciplinary team.

I'm excited to share the new rotation of our Virtual Work Experience (WEX) is now available! This month, your students have the opportunity to delve into General Practice or Public Health & Oral Pathology, gaining invaluable insights into these specialised areas.

More details can be found here:

Crafted in collaboration with Birmingham Universities Hospitals Trust, this thoughtfully curated 6-month medical and 4-month dental programme provides a unique glimpse into the medical and dental fields. The E-learning format enables students to fulfil their placements at their own pace, covering ethics, procedures, broader team roles, and fostering direct dialogues with doctors and dentists. This virtual experience creates a strong foundation for students' future careers, not only enhancing their UCAS applications but also strategically preparing them for practical work experience opportunities.

This programme has supported over 30,000 secondary school students to obtain free work experiences last year. Virtual work experiences have been accepted by the Medical Schools and Dental Schools Council as valuable alternatives to in-person shadowing, backed by the Health Education England Discovery report on the impact of virtual work placements.

Taking part in the Virtual Work Experience will provide:

Comprehensive Insights: The programme covers a range of specialities, providing a holistic understanding of medical and dental practices. Each month, a new focus area is introduced, allowing participants to delve into different aspects of the field.

Flexible Participation:Tailored for students from years 10-13/S3-S6/NI10-14, the programme accommodates various schedules by being virtual. Participants have one month to complete each specialty, ensuring flexibility and ease of participation.

Recognised Certification: Upon successful completion of all specialities, students will receive a certificate from Medic Mentor and UHB, validating their active participation to include in their UCAS and apprenticeships applications.

Registering for these programmes is simple—students just need to complete the free online application form:

Plus, upon completion of all 6 medical or 4 dental work experience sessions, students will receive a 'Highly Commended' reference certificate, something that students can proudly showcase on their UCAS applications.
