The Charles Russell Speechlys Career Start Programme for Y12 students has now gone live in Guildford and Cheltenham.
Have you ever wanted to know how to make it big in the legal industry? Maybe you want some work experience or a mentor from the legal profession?
Well, this is an opportunity like no other to provide you with the knowledge and insights on what it takes to get to the top in a global law firm. International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys are pleased to announce that their Career Start Programme is now open for applications for 2025! Taking place across their offices in Guildford and Cheltenham, you can choose which location to apply for.
The Career Start is a five-year programme, and it entails a range of opportunities for all aspiring students wanting to develop their careers in law. You will get long-term bespoke legal support, take part in skills-based workshops, get a mentor and take part in masterclasses to prepare you for the world of work.

February 2026 Half Term WX with QuinetiQ
Do you have students who are keen for more work experience? Are they interested in roles in STEM? QinetiQ are hosting a 3-day remote placement in February half term which might just be perfect for them!
QinetiQ is a global leader in science and tech, creating and testing cutting-edge innovations on land, sea, and air. Their experts make sure systems are safe and reliable, and they provide training and testing that’s as close to real-life as possible, preparing people for any challenge.
There are a variety of entry routes into working at QinetiQ, including apprenticeships, which will be discussed during this placement. Students will also be working on a group project which parallels real-world challenges. In previous placements, sessions have been led by Mechanical Engineers, Research Scientists and more.
Applications close on 19 January, but we’d encourage students to apply early to avoid disappointment. This deadline may be brought forward if we have a high number of applications.

QinetiQ works on science and technology projects, especially for the military, governments, and sometimes big companies. Think of them as the people behind the scenes who invent and test cool, high-tech stuff—like drones, robots, radar systems, or ways to keep computer systems safe from hackers.
What to Expect:
- Interactive Sessions: Engage with industry experts through live presentations and Q&A sessions. In previous sessions we heard from - a research scientist, a Mechanical Engineer and more. Ask questions and find out what their day-to-day jobs are really like.
- Project: Across the 3 days, you’ll work in teams to participate in a project and problem-solving activities that parallel real-world challenges and have an opportunity to develop key skills, that are invaluable in the workplace
- Career Insights: Discover the different paths into tech and engineering, including apprenticeships, degrees, and early careers support and learn about the diverse career opportunities within QinetiQ.
Please note that this placement will take place on Microsoft Teams and students will also need to use Google Classrooms. Successful applicants will be invited to a 30 minute pre-placement session to test out tech before the first day.
