NHS WX – Closing Friday 1 May
I wanted to send a final reminder that the NHS Allied Healthcare Virtual Work Experience begins this Sunday 3rd May, from 9:30am to 5:00pm. Please note that registrations for this session will close on Friday, so we strongly encourage students to secure their place as soon as possible.
This is also one of the final three opportunities available this academic year, making it a particularly valuable time for students to gain meaningful work experience ahead of UCAS applications. We would be very grateful if you could share this with your students in Years 10/S3/NI11 through to Years 13/S6/NI14 who are considering careers in healthcare.
Registration link: Interactive Virtual NHS Healthcare Careers Work Experience Programme - Allied Healthcare Mentor
For aspiring healthcare students, universities are increasingly looking for evidence of insight, reflection, and genuine commitment to the profession. This programme allows students to go beyond theoretical interest and develop a clear understanding of how multidisciplinary teams operate within the NHS - something they can directly reference in their personal statements and interviews.
During the session, students will follow two patients through a road traffic collision (RTC) scenario, gaining valuable insight into real-world NHS practice and interacting with a wide range of healthcare professionals.
Throughout the programme, participants will gain insights into various careers, including:
- Nursing
- Midwifery
- Paramedicine
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Dietetics
- Radiography
- Prosthetics and Orthotics
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Pharmacy
Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals throughout each day. This will empower students to make informed career decisions and demonstrate their commitment to healthcare in their UCAS applications.
By attending, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proactive engagement with healthcare careers
- Gain real insight into patient journeys from presentation to recovery
- Understand the roles of different allied health professionals within a multidisciplinary team
- Develop strong examples to discuss in UCAS personal statements and interviews
- Show sustained commitment if attending multiple sessions across the programme
Students are awarded a Work Experience Certificate for every session they complete. Those who complete the full 6-month programme will be awarded a Highly Commended Reference from the Presidents of Allied Healthcare Mentor. These are fantastic additions to their CVs!
Students can register individually at any time throughout the 6-month programme using the link below. We recommend booking early to gain as much out of this programme as possible. Places are £10 a session to cover administrative and technological costs.

3. Model Law Commission
Now in its 15th year, the Model Law Commission is a four-month long project that provides A-Level students with the chance to simulate the work of the Law Commission. We split the pool of students into four groups, each tasked with the reform of one of the following areas of law: (1) Family, Trusts or Land Law; (2) Criminal Law; (3) Commercial and Common Law; or (4) Public Law. From September to December, students undertake a five-stage process: research, formulating recommendations, consulting with their peers, reporting on their proposals and devising their legislation.
Each year, the Model Law Commission begins with a two-day in person conference in London. It is over the course of these two days that students are introduced to their respective topics by experts in the field who come from all over the country to speak to them.
The students are also visited by individuals from the Law Commission itself visit our students and advise on the difficulties in reforming the law and how to write a law reform report. The students then take that information and over the following weeks discuss reform ideas with each other, their Group Leaders and their peers.
The project then concludes with a final in person report launch event in London in January, hosted by MPs and visitors from the Law Commission. At the event, each student will receive a printed and published copy of their group's reform report.
If you are interested in learning more about the way law works in the UK, the way it is made and changed, then you are strongly encouraged to apply. The project will take place between September 2026 and January 2027.
To apply, please complete a brief application form by clicking here: Model Law Commission 2026 Application Form
The deadline for applications is 7pm on Friday 11 September 2026.
For more information go to: MODEL LAW COMMISSION | BVL
4. Supreme Court Mooting (legal debate) Competition
We offer students the opportunity to compete in our Mooting Competition in association with the Supreme Court. A "moot" simulates a court hearing (usually an appeal), in which participants analyse a fictional case, research the relevant law, prepare written submissions and then present an oral argument.
If you are selected to participate in the competition, you will be paired up with current law students, including students on the Bar Professional Training Course (the course people undertake to become a barrister), who act as "Mooting Mentors". This structure enables you to not only experience court advocacy, but also develop your knowledge of the law and nurture your communication skills with the help of those already pursuing a career in law.
The competition takes place between 6.30 and 8.30pm, starting with a training session, where you will be taught all about mooting. The 2027 competition runs every Thursday evening between 4 February and 22 April 2027, with the final (which is judged by a Supreme Court Justice) taking place on a date to be confirmed in April 2027 between 4:30 and 7pm.
To apply complete a brief application form by clicking here: Mooting Competition 2027 A-Level Student Application Form
The deadline for applications is 7pm on Saturday 2 January 2027. We recommend that students apply as soon as possible.
